a prayer on my wedding day

I awake to sunshine peering through my window,

creation astounds me as I wipe the sleep from my eyes.

Today I’m getting married,

and this morning was the last as a bachelor.

God direct me on this day,

direct me to have an open mind,

to celebrate the influence of others on my life,

to enter a marriage with Meghan a man of character,

to fill my spirit with love.

Today. Tomorrow.

the new beatnicks.

as i scoured over my tumblr feed to see what picture were posted, reblogged, liked, and GIFed today, i realized that tumblr (or at least those tumblrs i follow) is ultimately an artist collective.  no one really knows what they’re posting or why they’re posting it, but rather are just incessantly trying to learn, think, and most importantly, to create.  it’s a community of people looking to be inspired or to inspire, both with and without a little douchebaggery in attempt at most beautiful/artistic/moving/assinine post in the universe.  more often than not though, the images i see capture my attention, and the words are short enough to build more imagery without spending excess processing power.  the images, videos, texts, quotes (don’t forget GIFs!) are rapid-fire, endless, exhaustive, expanding, ordinary and extraordinary.  i really do consider the tumblr era of collective artists to be a beatnick crowd.  but whereas the beatnicks were popping pills and writing for 11 hours without a break, somehwo weaving comprehensible tapestries with their words from every kind of fabric, from every color, from every size and shape. their stream-of consciousness style of allowing the brain to write without pauses, interruptions, distractions was often ultimately pieced together to make wonderful, scorching-paced books whose words somehow find a way to connect and paint a picture.  the tumblrs are doing the same thing, but as a collective, building a unique, changing, and ever growing story of life in the USA.  if a picture’s worth a thousand words, the tumblr nation is dominating the story telling game through images and videos.  when will someone weave this tapestry to tell the tumblr story, the story of life in 2011?

This is bacon purchased near London. The US should really get their shit together when it comes to stuffing ourselves with pig. I’m furious.

This is Google for Earth Day.  Was anyone else scared shitless when they saw this image?  I just imagine Google taking such vast control that the branches of organic material form its name with their twisting branches and vines.  Maybe it’s just because it’s Google, but that made me uncomfortable.  Maybe Earth Day will become not a celebration of mother nature, but rather a celebration of Google Inc.
