a prayer on my wedding day
I awake to sunshine peering through my window,
creation astounds me as I wipe the sleep from my eyes.
Today I’m getting married,
and this morning was the last as a bachelor.
God direct me on this day,
direct me to have an open mind,
to celebrate the influence of others on my life,
to enter a marriage with Meghan a man of character,
to fill my spirit with love.
Today. Tomorrow.

the new beatnicks.
as i scoured over my tumblr feed to see what picture were posted, reblogged, liked, and GIFed today, i realized that tumblr (or at least those tumblrs i follow) is ultimately an artist collective. no one really knows what they’re posting or why they’re posting it, but rather are just incessantly trying to learn, think, and most importantly, to create. it’s a community of people...

The Tosh: A Eulogy for a Friend
The year is 2004. I’m a fresh-faced, recent high school grad poised to take my deafening ignorance to John Brown University. After a not-exactly-backbreaking summer of work at the Greeley Country Club, I refocused my energies on preparing for the first year on the college circuit. Undoubtedly, one of the necessary items on the list was a computer, specifically, a laptop, so that I could really...

How I know I'm in Honduras and not the U.S.
The Applebees (yes, Applebees) I went to today had coloring sheets for little kids, which included a crossword puzzle. The puzzle had some of the following words: familia, amor, esfuerzo, amistad, and DIOS. Haha. Never, ever, ever would that be possible in the States.
Interesting man…love his intensity, passion, and insecurity in front of the camera.

On Meeting Incarnate Video Game Characters
Yesterday, as I was casually discussing our neighborhood pothole problem with a older man from the area, I was struck with the feeling that I knew the guy with whom I was talking. I thought back—have we had a conversation before? Did I meet him somewhere? Is it his accent? After a minute or two of disconnected pondering, in which my neighbor continued his rapid-fire Spanish, I returned...

Dark Was The Night
Play a song above. I recommend the Sufjan one…
You probably already know about this album as it was released in mid-February, which in blog-years, means I’m about 3,239 weeks late. But, since I’m in Honduras, I get to blog how I want. Tomorrow maybe I’ll blog about Bernard Madoff. Then, I’ll write an tear-jerking tale about Obama’s election day.

You Doodle?
As I was sitting in my teacher’s meeting today, bored, tired, and slightly confused at the rapid-fire Spanish that was taking place all around me, I took a glance at the characters in the room to see what my colleagues were doing. To my delight, most of the best teachers (and the most interesting people), were doodling on their notepads. I then realized that the majority of the most...

Irony of the Day
I ride my bike to work. I find it’s faster, cheaper, healthier, and more entertaining than walking or taking a cab. Although my students laugh at me as I bike off each day, I somewhat enjoy being the butt of that kind of joke. The traffic after work is often terrible—I have to look out for crazy taxis, motorcycles, trucks, people, potholes, horses, carts, potholes, parked cars, other...

About Me
Micah loves: campfires by moonlight, 5-person toboggan runs with flowing scarves and laughing faces, swimming with turtles, sleepytime tea, coffee from Guatemala, knowing how things work, soccer in the street, a cold Ian Howells homebrew, blue skies, a powder day at winter park, a sharp breeze hammering my fingers on a hanging belay, the approach, the summit, a juicy t-bone, freestyling with the...

Incredibly inpiring story of perserverance and dedication to acheiving a very lofty goal. José’s personality is bursting with life, passion, and pride for his home country, Venezuela. I loved the quote, “it doesn’t matter where you come from or if you have an y money…the only thing that matters is talent.”
